About the game
Sokoban is a warehouse puzzle where you push crates onto designated goals. You can only push, never pull, so every move must be planned.
How to play
Move your character with the arrow keys to push crates. Get each crate onto a marked square. Avoid trapping a crate in a corner.
Tips & strategy
['Never push a crate against a wall unless it is its goal.', 'Plan the order of crates; some must be placed first.', 'Keep aisles clear so you can circle back.']
Advanced guide
Sokoban demands foresight. Before pushing a crate, confirm the cell behind your destination is free and that the crate won't be wedged where it can't move again. Solve crates in an order that preserves maneuvering room, and lean on undo to experiment safely.
History & origins
Sokoban was created by Hiroyuki Imabayashi in 1981 and remains a benchmark for puzzle AI.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I pull crates?
The rules only allow pushing, which is what makes it challenging.
I trapped a crate - now what?
You must undo moves; a corner-trapped crate off its goal is a dead end.
What is the best strategy?
Solve crates furthest from walls first, keeping options open.
Are levels always solvable?
Designed levels are; random ones often are not.
How do I recover from a mistake?
Use undo to step back rather than restarting blindly.
What makes a level hard?
Tight corridors and many crates sharing limited space.
